Five habits that make a good co-op team
Co-op nights are our gentlest, and they teach the most. These five habits come from watching Wednesday teams grow from nervous strangers into a tight crew.
Why co-op is the best classroom

In a co-op game you're not trying to beat anyone, only the game, and that changes how people behave. Mistakes become shared jokes, and the quiet player at the end of the table suddenly has the best idea of the night. Wednesdays at the club room are built around that feeling.
After a lot of Wednesdays we've seen the same habits keep appearing on the teams that enjoy themselves most. None of them needs skill. All of them can be learned in a single evening.
The five habits
Call things out early
Say what you see and what you're about to do. “Heading left, need cover” saves more games than a perfect aim. Short, calm sentences beat shouting every time, and they leave room for a teammate to answer. Keep a running commentary going, even when it's quiet, so no one is left guessing what the team is doing.
Share the goal, not the glory
Decide at the start what you're trying to do together, then check in halfway. When everyone knows the plan, nobody has to play hero, and the plan survives contact with the first surprise.
Let the newcomer lead sometimes
Hand the controls or the map to the least experienced person for a stretch. They'll make a mistake, everyone will survive it, and they'll remember the moment fondly for months. The team learns to read the situation together, and the veteran gets a rare chance to sit back and watch someone else improvise.
Keep hints short
If a teammate is stuck, give a nudge, not the answer. “Have you looked up?” is better than “climb the ladder”. Let them have the click of working it out. A puzzle solved alone is worth three solved by a helpful bystander, and the grin that goes with it is worth more again.
Talk after the match
Take two minutes when you finish to say what worked and what was funny. It turns a game into a story, and stories are what bring people back the next Wednesday.
